Understand a Session
A Session is the core item inside SessionDock.
Think of a Session as a layer on top of your existing DAW project. It helps you organize, browse, and manage your work without changing the project itself.
A Session can contain:
- A reference to your DAW project
- Preview audio files or mixdowns
- Artwork
- Notes
- Tags
- Metadata
- Collection assignments
Importantly, SessionDock does not modify your project files.
Your Ableton, Logic Pro, Cubase, Nuendo, Reaper, or other DAW project remains exactly where it is on disk. SessionDock simply keeps track of it and provides a central place to organize related information.
You can think of a Session as a launcher and organizer for a project.
For example:
- Your Logic Pro project lives in a project folder.
- SessionDock stores a reference to that project.
- You attach a mixdown, add notes, assign tags, and organize it into collections.
- When you're ready to continue working, you open the Session and jump directly back into your project.
This approach allows you to build a searchable library of sessions without altering your existing workflow or project files.
